PARVA HOUSE RESIDENTIAL ACTIVITY & TRAINING CENTRE
Near Sleaford
HISTORY
Parva House is a former village school. It was bought by Lincolnshire South Guide County in 1972 and converted to provide facilities for residential experiences and
training. Over the years, through the efforts of fundraising, grants and donations, a number of extensions and improvements have been made to the facilities. It now
provides residential facilities for a maximum of 32 people and camping for a maximum of 12. Being central to our county it provides a useful place for trainings and
meetings.
This property is run entirely by a management committee of volunteers.
EQUIPMENT YOU NEED TO BRING
Please bring your own:
- First aid kit
- Tea towels
- Dishcloths
- Oven gloves
- Dusters
- Black bin liners
- Pan scrubs
- Sheets / sleeping bags and pillow cases.
- Towels (for kitchen and toilets)
There are paper hand towel dispensers in the kitchen and Guiders Toilet.
Please do not sleep on the blue sheets or pillowcases already covering the beds.
GENERAL INFORMATION
FIRE SAFETY
Smoke Detectors are installed in all rooms, with an automatic fire alarm system (not connected to the Fire Station).
The smoke detectors are very sensitive to smoke, aerosols etc. Please read the instructions on the alarm box.
Four Fire Extinguishers are installed (1 kitchen, 1 craft room, and 1 in the passageway opposite girl's washroom, 1 at the bottom of the corridor near the
stairs.
There is a fire blanket in the kitchen.
Please do not prop the Fire Doors open.
Please have a fire drill as soon as practicable after arrival.
HEALTH AND SAFETY
Please note that there is a No Smoking policy inside the House. It cannot be stressed strongly enough that all notices and literature regarding health, safety and
food hygiene should be regularly read, understood and strictly adhered to.
CARETAKER
There is no caretaker/cleaner, so please clean the house (including cookers) before you leave. Please take all leftovers, magazines, craft materials etc home and
see that Parva House is left as you would wish to find it.
INSURANCE
Please note that the personal property of users is not insured.
HEATING
Night storage heaters are used in winter for the provision of constant background heating. Users are requested not to change the settings on the controls, but to
switch off (and on again before leaving) if the heating is more than required in any room. There are additional wall heaters provided for use when the
weather is very cold.
REFUSE
Refuse should be placed in black bags in the Wheelie Bin at the gate.
Collection is on Wednesday morning. Please wheel the large wheelie bin to the outside of the pedestrian gateway for emptying. PLEASE ENSURE THAT THE
BRAKE IS ON.
RECYCLING
There is a smaller wheelie bin for material for recycling.
This is collected monthly. Please see notice on this wheelie bin (and in the house) as to suitable materials and collection dates.
BREAKAGES
Please record breakages on the back of the Checklist, which you will find in the kitchen. Charges will only be incurred for deliberate damage or misuse.
NOTICE BOARDS
Please read all Notice Boards.
All posters should be pinned onto the boards provided and not in any circumstances onto the walls.
PORTABLE TV SETS
Parva House does not have a TV licence.
TELEPHONES
There is a payphone in Parva House and a callbox outside.
SOUVENIRS
Please put the money in the tin provided. Please note to bring change. A cheque made payable to Parva House would be better.

ACCOMMODATION LAYOUT

THE LOFT AREA UP THE STAIRCASE IS STRICLY OUT OF BOUNDS.
SLEEPING ACCOMMODATION
The accommodation is for a maximum of 32 and consists of:
- Two dormitories sleeping 16 in 8 bunk beds and 8 in 4 bunk beds.
- First Aid Room containing 2 beds
- Pack Leaders Room with a 2 tier bunk bed
- Guiders Room with 3 beds
- Single Bedroom
Lockers or containers are provided for personal possessions in the dormitories and there is a wardrobe in Guiders Room.
There are Terylene pillows and some blankets are available.
KITCHEN
The kitchen is equipped with fitted cupboards, 2 electric cookers, fridge-freezer, fridge, microwave, automatic washer/dryer, 2 sinks and a hand basin. The kitchen
and dining room have equipment for 32.
ACTIVITY / DINING ROOM
The Activity / dining room is equipped with wipe-down folding tables and chairs. There is a carpeted area with easy chairs and pinboards are around the walls.
Two vacuum cleaners are housed in the cupboard. Please check whether they need emptying before leaving. The spare bags are in a kitchen drawer.
CRAFT ROOM
The Craft Room is equipped with tables, stools, shelving and pinboards.
BOOKING INFORMATION
CHARGES FOR 2007
Residential:
Minimum booking £100
Per night £5.75 (In County) * or £6.25 (Out of County)
Camping 75p per person per night
* If taking a minimum of 16 girls, 1 leader will be free; other leaders pay full price.
Please note - Bookings, which include a Bank Holiday, must be for a minimum of 3 nights.
Non-Residential:
Per Evening £10.00
Per Day £20.00

FORMS
The appropriate forms should be sent at least 6 weeks before the holiday to the relevant Residential Experience Adviser.
If assessments are required, please notify the relevant Adviser as soon as possible.
QUALIFICATIONS
There must be a licensed Guider or a warranted Guider who is being assessed, and at least two other adults, one of whom is a First Aider. For unlicensed Guiders
taking Guides or Senior Section, see latest edition of the Guiding Manual.
BOOKINGS or ENQUIRIES
E-mail the Booking Secretary
or the Chairman of the Management Committee
A deposit of £50 (non-returnable) to be paid within 10 days of telephone booking or the verbal booking is cancelled.
The balance must reach the Booking Secretary at least 60 days before your arrival otherwise the booking is cancelled.
Please arrange to arrive after 2pm and leave by noon in the Lincolnshire school holidays. Weekend bookings during Lincolnshire schools' term time, may arrive anytime
Friday and leave anytime Sunday.

Parva House
This is available from April to September/October for a maximum of 12 people (this includes the leaders).

There is:
- a dry shelter with two wooden trestle tables
- a cooking slab – wood fires are allowed
- a permanent barbecue
- two tents are available if required
- water available from outside tap
- an outside toilet and washbasin are adjacent to the campsite

OUTSIDE FACILITIES
There is a large play area, with an outdoor toilet facility and a large grassed area.
This grassed area is sometimes let separately to small camping groups of Guides or Senior Section members. Please note therefore that you may not have
exclusive use of the grassed area during the camping season.
However, if you are intending to camp (even an overnight "taster") as well as sleep in the House, please advise the Booking Secretary when making the booking,
and include on appropriate form to Pack Holiday / Camp Adviser.
A brick built barbecue is available – the barbecue shelves are held in the outside store. Please bring your own charcoal.
There is an Environment Resource Pack to help with ideas for activities in the Main Hall at Parva House.
Also the County's Environment Adviser is willing to help you to plan (and carry out if she is available) suitable environmental activities for your pack holiday or
camp.
Similarly, the County's Heritage Adviser is willing to help you to plan (and carry out if she is available) work for the Heritage Badge during your stay at the
House.
